A magnetic recording head (10) for reading and writing information to a rotating magnetic medium includes a body (13) having a bottom surface which faces the magnetic surface of the medium. Attached to or embedded within the body is a transducer. The body also includes a wear-pad (11) disposed along its bottom surface. The wear-pad includes side surfaces (14) and a working surface (12) which is in continuous sliding contact with the magnetic disk surface. The side surfaces are coated with a material (17) having a sufficiently low surface energy such that debris accumulation is reduced near the head-disk interface.
