The compensating chamber (30) is divided by the movable partition such as a separating piston (36) into a fluid chamber (32) containing the pressurised medium and a gas chamber (34). The rod seal (16) sealing the cylinder from the piston rod is divided into an inner sealing point (18) facing the inner chamber (12) and a sealing point (20) remote from the inner chamber. The interspace (50) between the two sealing points is connected to the fluid chamber of the compensating chamber. The piston rod (4) is coupled at its end projecting into the inner chamber to a damper piston (60) dividing the inner chamber (12) into a first work chamber (61) penetrated by the piston rod and a second work chamber (62). Parts of the pressurised medium can be interchanged between the two work chambers through a throttle unit (66).
