The outwardly pointing container edge (20) has a flat support face adjoined outwards by an outwardly bent marginal strip. In the side face area (7,8,9,10) the container edge bulges out on the outside edge to support the lid. The lid is correspondingly shaped at the part which engages over the container edge. The container can have rounded corners (14) and the container edge can have at least in sections a substantially constant radius of curvature. The support face of the container edge in the corner areas (14) has corner curves (15) with constant width over a given angular area. USE/ADVANTAGE - The convex shape of the container edge tensions the lid outwards for better sealing fit.
