The invention pertains to a map device with a place indicator wherein at least one reference position of the place indicator in the direction of at least one coordinate relative position to the map (12) can be detected using a sensor (28) in conjunction with a first marking (24). The invention provides for precise and reliable adjustment of the place indicator, by motor or manually, by means of a second sensor (30) connected to the place indicator or the map (12) which detects periodic markings (26) on the map (12) or on the place indicator.
