Building material containing heavy metals for use in nuclear plants - the heavy metals arising within contaminated soil, or the dredged sludge from ports or harbours

The use of raw material containing heavy metals in the manufacture of building material is claimed. Bricks or concrete containing heavy metals arising from water sediment or contaminated soil used e.g. in nuclear plants where the absorption of gamma radiation is necessary. Sand or clay containing the metals can be used directly in the manufacture of the building components. Alternately gas tight layers of soil and/or water sediment can be interspersed between conventional layers of concrete and/or bricks. The whole construction is then surrounded with a suitable covering layer. USE/ADVANTAGE - In situations where gamma or other radioactive radiation is to be absorbed. Otherwise useless and difficult to dispose of water deposits and/or soil arising from situations such as the dredging of ports and harbours can be used.
