The invention relates to a security snap hook (10) comprising a ring (17) having a clamping zone (20) for the rope (18) in its lower portion, and a retaining means (22) formed by a wedge (24) mounted or retained by friction in the ring thereby normally preventing the rope (18) from entering the clamping region (20). The wedge (24) can be ejected due to the high pressure exerted thereon as a consequence of an accidental fall of the first climber on the rope. As a result, a reduction of the securing effort and a reduction of the force applied to the anchoring point are obtained.
