PURPOSE:To eliminate redundancy to quickly reproduce a compressedly recorded picture by selectively reproducing only the moving picture part, which is compressed and recorded by intra-picture unit forecast encoding, out of the compressed recorded moving picture. CONSTITUTION:A forecast mode deciding circuit 22 provided in the preceding stage of a decoder 12 performs required decision in accordance with the frame forecast mode added to forecast error data without referring to the address recorded on a directory area of a CD-ROM 6 or the like. A read track control circuit 23 drives a pickup head 24 to reproduce a recording track only when the circuit 22 decides the intra-frame forecast mode. That is, circuits 22 and 23 and the head 24 constitute a closed loop, and intra-frame forecast error data is read out, and following inter-frame forecast error data is skipped to reproduce following intra-frame forecast error data. Consequently, only important scenes are seen by skip reproducing at the time of quick reproducing, and simultaneously, the redundancy accompanied with reproducing of the moving picture part is eliminated. |
