In a floppy disk controller between a host system (1) and a plurality of floppy disk units (3-0 SIMILAR 3-3), a control register (21) having a plurality of ports each for driving one of the floppy disk units is connected to a logic circuit such as a NOR circuit (26), to thereby detect that all of the floppy disk units are not driven. When all of the floppy disk units are not driven, the logic circuit generates a standby control signal.
