A printed metal container comprises a primer coating of an organic resin film layer (1) on a surface-treated film (2) formed on a metallic substrate. (1) contains Ti oxide having photosensitivity characteristics given by I x t1/2 is less than 100 mW sec/m2. (I is the optical intensity; t1/2 is the optical half life of the surface potential). (1) has a compsn. ratio (by wt.), Ti oxide/binder resin of 70/30-40/60. (1) is 5-20 microns thick. (2) is no more than 0.2 microns in thickness. A multicolour printing method is carried out by making a printed metal container for each desired colour by using electronic photography and then carrying out a transportation process, a charging process and an exposure process. The transportation process comprises a continuous transportation of the printed metal container while electrically contacting it to ground as well as a rotation synchronised to the number of transporting containers. The changing process comprises charging (1) at a specified surface potential. The exposure process comprises forming the electrostatic images using light.
