PURPOSE:To provide the method for producing the mullite sintered compact excellent in toughness and in strength in the temperature range of room tempera ture to a high temperature to 1400 deg.C. CONSTITUTION:Silica powder having an average particle diameter of <=40nm, alumina powder having an average particle diameter of <=40nm, and crystalline mullite powder having an average particle diameter of 50nm to 5mum are mixed with each other in a dispersing medium, dried and subsequently sintered. Thereby, the mullite sintered compact comprising fine particulate crystals and columnar crystal mullite and excellent in both toughness and strength can produced. |
