An energy absorbing device (14) including a) a deformable and crushable body (10) arranged along a longitudinal axis operative to receive an axial impact force at a first end thereof along the longitudinal axis and to transmit the axial impact force axially therethrough to a second end thereof and b) disassemblable energy converting apparatus (16) arranged adjacent the second end of the body for deforming and crushing the body upon receipt of the axial impact force thereby to convert energy from the axial impact force to mechanical energy. |
