PREPARATION OF VESICULAR ARBUSCULAR MYCORRHIZAE

PURPOSE:To produce large amount of Vesicular arbuscular mycorrhizae effective in promoting the nutritive absorption of a symbiont and protecting the symbiont from pathogen by adding a material partly inhibiting the extension of the Vesicular arbuscular mycorrhizae and the plant root by physical means in the culture system of the mycorrhizae. CONSTITUTION:Vesicular arbuscular mycorrhizae (an endotrophic mycorrhiza having cystidium and arborescent part) and a symbiont (e.g. alfalfa) are cultured on a soil containing a material capable of partly inhibiting the extension of the Vesicular arbuscular mycorrhizae and the plant root by physical means. Concretely, 100g of glass pieces obtained by crushing a glass Erlenmeyer flask and retained on a 2.4mm mesh is mixed to 1 L of AKADAMA-TSUCHI (a kind of red clay), a plant such as alfalfa is planted on the obtained soil containing the shielding material and spore of Gigaspora margarita (a kind of Vesicular arbuscular mycorrhizae) is inoculated and cultured. A large amount of the Vesicular arbuscular mycorrhizae can be produced over a long period in high efficiency.
