This invention relates to novel cyclic peptides of the formula: which are useful anticoagulant agents. The synthetic peptides described competitively prevent the binding of fibrinogen to the recognition site of thrombin in exerting their anticoagulant effect and, thereby, provide a scientifically interesting and therapeutically significant adjuct to anticoagulant therapy.
