PURPOSE:To obtain the catalyst which gives an olefin polymer having excellent particle properties and has high catalytic activity and excellent particle proper ties by constituting it of an organoaluminumoxy compound, a specific transition metal compound, and an organoaluminum hydride. CONSTITUTION:The catalyst comprises (b) an organoaluminumoxy compound (e.g. methylaluminoxane), (a) a compound of a Group IVB transition metal of the Periodic Table which compound contains a ligand having a cyclopentadienyl skeleton [e.g. bis(1-methyl-3-n-butylcyclopentadienyl)zirconium dichloride], and (c) an organoaluminum hydride (e.g. diisobutylaluminum hydride). It may contain (d) a carrier in fine powder form (e.g. silica). According to need, it may further contain (g) an olefin prepolymer as a catalytic component obtained by prepolymerizing an olefin in the presence of (e) an organic Al compound and/or an organoaluminum hydride, and furthermore contain (f) an organic Al compound.
