PURPOSE:To provide the (1X3+6) structure steel cord enhanced in its breaking tenacity, improved in its fatigue resistance and corrosion resistance and used for reinforcing rubbers by plastically processing a core strand to contract the diameter of the core strand. CONSTITUTION:This steel cord for reinforcing rubbers is characterized by twisting a core strand 2a with six side element wires 3 around the core strand 2a to produce an outer layer 3a in which a space S is formed between the side element wires 3, the core strand 2a being formed by plastically contracting the diameter of a strand 1a formed by twisting three core element wires 1 with a die to change the cross section of the processed core into a substantially circular or elliptical cross-sectional shape, and by controlling a contracted diameter processing degree Q to >=24% in an equation: Q(%)=100X(D1<2>-D2<2>)/D1<2> wherein D1 is the diameter of a circumscribed circle of the strand 1a before plastically processed; D2 is the diameter of the circumscribed circle of the core strand 2a after plastically processed; and the Q is the contraction processing degree of the core strand 2a. |
