PRODUCTION OF FINE CROSS-LINKED POROUS ION EXCHANGE CELLULOSE PARTICLES

PURPOSE:To produce fine ion exchange cellulose particles very hardly causing shrinkage or swelling in a high concn. salt soln. and capable of exhibiting excellent ion exchange ability. CONSTITUTION:Fine solidified viscose particles contg. cellulose xanthate and a pore forming agent are formed, the pore forming agent is removed by washing and fine cellulose particles are regenerated by neutralization with an acid. The resulting particles are brought into a cross-linking reaction and ion exchange groups are introduced to produce the objective fine ion exchange cellulose particles. The cross-linking reaction is carried out with epichlorohydrin in the presence of an alkali for >=16hr.
