A reciprocating piston engine with a movable cylinder (1), in particular an internal combustion engine, has a cylinder and an axially movable piston (2) which are each rotatively joined at a joining point with a crank mechanism (6, 11) fixedly mounted at an axial point. Both crank mechanisms rotate at the same speed of rotation without slipping, so that the joining points of piston and cylinder are constantly located substantially at the same side of the connecting line between the axial points. Both crank mechanisms (6, 11) are mutually coupled (18, 19, 20) in such a way that they turn in the same direction. The crank mechanisms have the same radius and when they rotate they keep a lead or lag phase angle with respect to each other. |
