PURPOSE:To lower the working temperature of a cathode and enable switching control to be applied. CONSTITUTION:A heater layer 3 is formed on the upper surface of a glass substrate 4, and a gate electrode layer 1 is formed on the upper surface of the layer 3 via an insulation film layer 2. In addition, small holes 6 with the layers 1 and 2 removed are formed above the heater layer 3, and an emitter material is buried in a bottom section within the holes 6 to form an emitter layer 5.
