PURPOSE:To calculate a new filter characteristic value bad on the adjacent value of the filter characteristic value corresponding to each picture element and to use this new filter characteristic value for preventing filter. characteristics from being rapidly changed corresponding to data at the edge of an image in one image. CONSTITUTION:An edge detection circuit 38 of this image signal processor is composed of a Laplacian circuit 45 and absolute value circuit (ABS) 46. The Laplacian circuit 45 performs two-dimensional Laplacian transformation to a log amplifier output log Y. The ABS circuit 46 outputs an edge signal by calculating the absolute value of a signal passed through this Laplacian circuit 45. A characteristic selection circuit 39 converts the value of the edge signal to a local average width W expressing the filter characteristic and further corrects the value of the peripheral W basing on that value. |
