The construction, of the roof for a convertible vehicle (10), is such that a compartment (18) is formed, which is defined by the rear of the backs (16) of the seats (14) and by a transverse rear wall (22). The rear upper section (28) of the bodywork is mounted pivotally (X-X') on to the vehicle structure, such that the section (28) can be withdrawn into the rear compartment (18). The rest of the roof panel (30) is mounted on a pair of linked arms (48, 50). The primary arms (48) are lined at the lower end (52) to an axis (54), fixed to the vehicle and the upper end (56) is linked by an axis (58) fixed to the roof panel. The second arms (50) are mounted at the lower end (60) onto a second axis (62) fixed to the vehicle and at the upper end (64) to a second axis (66) fixed to the roof. USE/ADVANTAGE - The movement of the roof is controlled and guided effectively during the opening and closing.
