PURPOSE:To correctly recognize a symbol for showing the end of a sentence by analyzing the parts before and after punctuation marks, a period and a comma, in the case there is ambiguity in a result of recognition of the punctuation marks, the period and the comma. CONSTITUTION:A character recognizing part 5 sets an arbitrary range of image data as an object and executes and executes a pattern collation with a standard character pattern recorded in advance in a recognition dictionary 6. This pattern collation processing is executed to all processings of the image data, and recognition of these corresponding characters is executed. A sentence end symbol priority processing part 7 reads in a result recognized by the recognizing part 5, and in the case where there is ambiguity in punctuation marks, a period and a comma, the parts before and after its symbol are analyzed, and in the case where possibility that this part becomes a pause of a sentence, is high, a symbol for showing the sentence end such as an end point and a period is allowed to take precedence, and in other case, a symbol except the sentence end such as a pause point and a comma is allowed to take precedence. In such a way, a symbol for showing the end of the sentence can be recognized correctly. |
