PURPOSE: To provide a system which remotely resets a postal franker by adding a variable quantity of postal charges. CONSTITUTION: A computerized central equipment, namely, a host 30 communicates with a meter 15 through a telephone 34 to prove the identity of the meter 15 and confirms validity of a fund and sends a peculiar temporary combination permitted for the meter 17 independently of the value of demanded postal charges. The host 30 has a preliminarily set relation to a peculiar temporary combination which is generated by and held in the meter 15. The meter 15 compares the combination generated by the meter 15 with the combination received from the host 30. If this relation is correct, for example, if these combinations coincide with each other, demanded additional postal charges are introduced to the meter. |
