摘要 PURPOSE:To enhance the utilization factor of the power consumption of a backlight by splitting natural light from a bar-like lamp to polarized light beams having the different plane of polarization and multiplexing two light beams after optically rotating one light beam to be adjusted to the plane of polarization of the other. CONSTITUTION:The light beam emitted from the bar-like lamp 1 is separated to an abnormal light beam(P-polarized light component) and a normal light beam(S-polarized light component) by a polarizing beam splitter 211. After the normal light beam advances to a mirror 212, the plane of polarization is rotated by 90 degrees by a 90-degree optically rotating means 213, and it advances to a polarizing light beam splitter for multiplexing 215 by a mirror 214, and multiplexed on the same plane of polarization as the abnormal light beam. Therefore, even the light beam shielded by a polarizing plate in the conventional manner can be utilized, and the untilzation factor of the light beam becomes nearly double, and the power consumption of the backlight is restrained to 1/2.
