PURPOSE:To attain an efficient coding by coding continuously odd/even number fields in the unit of fields. CONSTITUTION:When the number of Brs (bidirectional prediction coding fields) held between forward prediction coding fields in the case of a picture prediction system (hereinafter picture is referred to as r) is two (fields), since the interval of the Pr has no limitation, the number of the Brs is variable. 2nd field is an Ir (in-field coding field) and subjected to in-field coding. Actually, similar to the case with coding a progressive scan picture, the intra coding or the prediction coding is selected in the unit of macro blocks depending on the coding efficiency. Since the prediction is implemented by an up-to-date field, the prediction error is reduced and the high efficiency prediction coding is implemented.
