PURPOSE:To form a safe secondary battery having no possibility of ignition and fire because no metal fine crystal such as Li is formed by containing an organic solvent which is reacted with a metal generated from a metal ion, and converted into a nonmetal in a nonaqueous electrolyte. CONSTITUTION:Conductive plates 2, 3 are arranged on the upper part of a battery vessel 1 with an insulating plate 4 between, and a hole 5 is opened in the center part of the conductive plates 2, 3 and the insulating plate 4. Although a safety valve 9 interrupts the content of a battery from the outside air, it is released and opened when the internal pressure of the battery receives a pressure of a determined value or more by an abnormality in the battery. When the temperature is raised to 100 deg.C or more by the heating of overcharge, for example, iodoethane is evaporated to enhance the pressure in the battery, the safety valve 9 is opened to exhaust the electrolyte. Although the electrode is then exposed and makes contact with the air, metal lithium contained in a positive electrode is reacted with iodoethane, and converted into lithium iodide which is a nonmetal, and metal lithium is not formed, so that ignition is ever caused even when the electrode is exposed to the air. |
