PURPOSE:To generate or detect light or electromagnetic waves whose wavelengths are shorter than those of visible lights, by a method wherein magnetic interaction of electrons inside a magnetic substance is changed by inputting energy from the outside into the magnetic substance constituted of material for forming spin waves. CONSTITUTION:A surface emitting type solid-state X-ray laser element is constituted of an excitation part 1 composed of magnetic superlattice, a reflecting mirror 2a arranged on the upper surface of the excitation part 1, and a reflecting mirror 2b arranged on the lower surface of the excitation part 1. In order to supply energy for pumping the excitation part 1, an X-ray source 3 for sending Cu-k X-rays to the end face of the excitation part 1 is installed. In the excitation part 1, a magnetic superlattice is formed by laminating, e.g. FeTiO2 films 5 and garnet films 6. In the case of oscillation, the laser element is cooled at a liquid nitrogen temperature, and the excitation part 1 is irradiated with Cu-k X-rays as pumping energy from the X-ray source 3. Radiation light passes through the reflecting mirror 2a and is outputted. |
