The pedal includes shaft whose one end is fixed to crank, and at other end fixed rotatively to support platform for the bicyclist to rest his feet. A flexible leaf spring fixed to the rear of the flat support platform (34) extends perpendicularly to the support face. The leaf has a free edge end (66) which is folded in the direction of the support platform (34). This edge (66) can be displaced under the action of the edge (67) located at the rear of the plate (34) fixed to the cyclist's shoe. The plate (34) has a rounded rear edge (67) which is engaged under the folded edge (66) of the flexible leaf (64). The flexible strip is fixed on the platform by a slide (60). ADVANTAGE - Allows engagement of the cyclist's shoe on the pedal by a vertical movement of the foot.
