Travelling wave tube - has heat pipes parallel to longitudinal axis, for transferring heat from collector region to delay line region

The travelling wave tube has an electron radiation section, a delay line section, and an electron collector section, arranged one after the other in the direction of the tube axis. A heat expelling device carries away the heat generated by thermal loss in the collector section. A heat-pipe system transfers the heat in the collector section to the heat expelling device. The latter is arranged along the tube axis direction, spaced apart from the collector section. Components of the delay line system pref. form part fo the heat expelling device. ADVANTAGE - Improved distribution of heat from collector region over larger area of tube housing, without increase in size and weight of tube.
