A feed device is for laundry items and conveys them to a laundry treatment unit. Grippers (2, 3) which can be expanded transversely are associated with a feed conveyor and the expansion drive of the grippers is switched on by means of a scanner that registers a specific position of the advancing edge of the clamped laundry item. The grippers (2, 3) can be moved, in addition, independently of each other. ADVANTAGE - The invention permits laundry items to be fed at least on two tracks next to each other.
