The pipe (2) is taken through the base of the manhole (1) where a sampling chamber (3) is topped by a plate (5) at the end of a pull-cord (6). An emergency shut-off valve (7) is installed at the inlet and an overflow chamber (4) connects the sampling chamber to the outlet. The bed of the pipe is broadened into an open channel with a cross-section at the outflow end into which the plate can be lowered to a level corresp. to the size of the sample holder. ADVANTAGE - Representative samples can be taken easily even from very small outflows, without need for abrupt step where sediment could accumulate.
