Fabric desizing control - compares concentration of sizing in washing fluid with amount of sizing applied to control washing action

To determine the deg. of desizing a fabric (15), especially wovens, during the washing process the amount of material (15) treated, the washing fluid (19) flow and the concentration of sizing in the fluid (19) are measured. The deg. of desizing is set by the difference between the amount of sizing applied to the fabric and the vol. of sizing carried off by the washing fluid. Pref. the concentration is measured by a continuous refractometer. The amount of sizing contained in the washing water is also taken into account in the computation. The washing process is effected in a number of successive baths (12-14), with the concentration measurement at the last bath (14) in the flow direction, and pref. also in the penultimate bath (13). The desizing process is controlled according to the measured data, pref. by adjusting the material (15) feed speed. The desizing is a continuous process. USE/ADVANTAGE - The method is for removing the sizing from fabrics, and especially wovens, where the warps have been previously sized for protection during weaving. The system gives an effective and controlled desizing action, during washing, to give a set character.
