An appts. for producing alpha,beta-unsatd. nitrile which utilises the reactions of propylene, isobutylene or t.-butyl alcohol with ammonia and an oxygen-contg. gas to yield an alpha,beta-unsatd. nitrile having the same number of C atoms as the starting olefin or t.-butylalcohol. The appts. is composed of reactor (1), a starting gas supplier (2) and an oxygen-contg. gas supplier (3). (2) Is a horizontal tube fitted to the lower part of the reactor and it is equipped with starting gas blow nozzles on its lower surface. (3) Is beneath and parallel to (2) and is equipped on its upper surface with the same number of blow pipes for oxygen-contg. gas as there are blow nozzles for the starting gas. The nozzles and pipes are arranged in such a way that each pipe faces a nozzle. The distance between the pipes and the nozzles is 25-300mm. The pipes are arranged at a distance of 90-250mm from each other with a density of distribution of 16-120 per m2 of the cross section of the reactor (1). The distance between the pipe closest to the reactor and the wall of the reactor (1) is 300nm or less.
