PURPOSE:To measure ion concentration smoothly and to shorten the measurement time greatly by passing a current which flows between electrodes through a current converting resistance and then amplifying the potential difference, and finding the instantaneous maximum peak value in a discharging process. CONSTITUTION:A couple of electrodes made of zinc and carbon are fixed oppo site each other, only parts which contact a liquid surface are recessed, and the parts other than the recessed parts are coated with 'Teflon(R)'. When the ion concentration is measured, the current flowing between the electrodes is passed through the current converting resistance Rs and the potential difference is amplified by an amplification part to draw the instantaneous maximum peak value in the discharging process on a recorder. The surfaces of the electrodes need to be held in the same states at all times and chromium is sometimes deposited on the electrode surfaces. For the purpose, the electrode surfaces are cleaned and activated in a weak acid solution before and after the measure ment so as to place the electrode surface invariably in the same state. |
