A water or land-borne vehicle 15 is powered by a wind turbine (4) comprising slow speed aerodynamic shaped blades or wings mounted on axle (3) through a pitch varying coupling (5). A toothed pulley (6) drives pulley (12) through a belt (not shown) which allows 180 DEG rotational movement of the turbine assembly around a vertical axis (8) on a mast support. As shown pulley (12) drives a water screw (10) through a universal joint (9). The drive arrangement eliminates torque reaction which otherwise tends to displace the turbine about the vertical pivot axis. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 9 not shown) the wind turbine (91) is used to drive the rear wheels (92) of a land vehicle (90). <IMAGE> |
