The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for facilitating the discharge of a mass tower or the like and treating pulp in said space. The problem with the prior art technique has been in the transfer of high consistency (8 to 25%) pulp, arriving from the thickeners or the like, from a drop leg or the like further on. Pulp has easily formed arching in the drop leg,whereby the pump has not received pulp. Said problem has been solved by arranging according to the invention a rotor (10) in a drop leg, mass tower or the like (2), which rotor (10) breaks pulp planks (7) and homogenizes the pulp, whereby it flows more easily to the impeller of pump (5).
