A method and apparatus for gasifying or combusting solid carbonaceous material in a fluidized bed reactor (10). The fine particulates separated from the gases issued from the gasification or combustion are introduced into an ash heating chamber (18), where at least a portion of the ashes contained in the fine particulates is caused to melt at a raised temperature. The fine particulates containing molten ash are circulated through a return duct (46) back to the combustion chamber (12) of the fluidized bed reactor. The return duct is supplied with cooling gas and/or cooling liquid through openings (49) or pores in the wall (48) of the return duct, for cooling and granulating the fine particulates containing molten ash. <IMAGE> |
