An installation for cultivation of plants comprises a tower greenhouse 1 within which plant carriers 19 are suspended from an endless travelling band 7 which passes over upper guide rollers 8, 9 and lower guide rollers 10-12, the rollers 10 and 12 being positioned such that the lower part of the band includes an inclined portion 7<SP>1</SP>. A container 17 supplied with nutrient solution from tank 14 is located below roller 10 at a level such that the carriers 19 dip into the solution, the side wall 20 of the container being extended to return liquid dripping from the carriers 19 to container 17. A support member 21 carries illuminating elements 22 and a fan 15 with heating elements 16 is provided. The roof 1<SP>1</SP> of the greenhouse may be raised or lowered for ventilation and the side walls are of glass or plastics.
