PURPOSE:To provide a composition good in its color, smell and stability and useful for quasi-drugs, etc., as a substituent of lanolin by esterifying glycerol with a medium chain branched fatty acid. a long chain linear fatty acid and a medium chain dibasic acid under a specific condition. CONSTITUTION:Glycerol, a medium chain branched fatty acid such as isononanoic acid, a long chain linear fatty acid such as behenic acid, and a medium chain dibasic acid such as sebacic acid are subjected to an esterification reaction in the presence of p-toluene sulfonic acid as a catalyst in a nitrogen gas atmosphere at 120-200 deg.C for 15 hr with stirring, decolored with active China clay, and further deodorized to provide the lanolin-like synthetic oil having a molar ratio of 1:1.7-2.3 between the long chain linear fatty acid and the medium branched fatty acid, a glycerol : medium dibasic acid solar ratio of 1:0.7-0.8, and a ratio of 3:0.4-0.6 between the hydroxyl groups of the glycerol and the remaining hydroxyl groups in the reaction product, excellent in its color, smell and stability, and having viscosity, extendibility, luster and touch similar to those of lanolin.
