PURPOSE: To apply a desired range of back pressure to a printing head by a method having harmony equal to or more than the life of a copy cartridge and to keep back pressure of a level having harmony relatively even during the continuous use of the copy cartridge, in an apparatus for supplying liquid ink to the printing head in a thermal ink jet printer. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus has a housing 12 forming a single chamber 13 having a ventilation port 14 and an outlet port 16 and supplies liquid ink to a thermal ink jet printer. A medium 18 occupies at least a part of the chamber 13 to hold a slight amt. of the liquid ink. A scavenger member 20 is arranged so as to traverse the outlet port 16 to impart capillary force larger than that of the medium 18.
