PURPOSE:To obtain highly accurate, high performance and relatively simple system by using heat detecting elements different in size from one another in a two-dimensional thermal image system for rotating one-dimensionally arranged pyroelectric type heat detecting elements and a lens as a single unit. CONSTITUTION:A thermal image detector 6 comprises pyroelectric type heat detecting elements 1 and a lens 2 in a single unit and rotates around a rotation shaft 5. Sizes of the respective detecting elements 1a to 1h of the elements 1 are different from one another, where the element 1h is longer than the element 1a in the lengthwise direction. Thus, when a human body in a room is observed, it is possible to make balance in resolution of images in the both cases where the human body is far and near. Since lens 2 integrated with the detecting elements 1 is assembled, changing of a vertical field angle in each area can be realized by changing length of the respective elements 1a to 1h. That is, length of the corresponding element 1a is made short in an area 1 with a small field angle, while length of the corresponding element 1h in an area with a large field angle is made long.
