PURPOSE:To increase operability by changing the timing of lock up according to travel resistance in the case of the automatic shift controller of a transmission equipped with the lock up mechanism of a torque converter. CONSTITUTION:The controller is equipped with a vehicle weight surmizing portion 22 to surmize vehicle weight; a slope surmizing portion 23 to surmize a slope; a standard lock up line selecting portion 21 that memorizes a standard lock up line at every specific speed shift ratio and at the same time selects a standard lock up line that is according to the status quo speed shift ratio out of plural standard lock up lines; and a lock up line correcting portion 25 to correct a standard lock up line selected according to surmized weight and slope, and a lock up signal output portion 27 that judges the timing of lock up on or off by using a corrected lock up line and outputs a lock up signal to a lock up solenoid 33 with this timing, is equipped.
