PURPOSE:To provide a new compound capable of producing in high yield and in high selectivity cyanoacetates serving as a raw material for pesticides/ medicines or organic solvents. CONSTITUTION:The compound of formula I (R<1> is alkyl; R<2> is H or alkyl), e.g. 3-t-butyldioxy-3-ethoxypropionitrile. The compound of the formula I can be obtained by reaction of a cyanoacetaldehyde dialkylacetal of formula II with a peroxide of formula R<2>OOH in the presence of an acid catalyst (e.g. a Bronsted acid, Lewis acid). The compound of the present invention can easily converted to cyanoacetate(s) of formula III and/or formula IV by treatment in the presence of a base catalyst (e.g. an amine, alkali metal salt), iron or copper catalyst. |
