<p>PURPOSE:To isolate physiologically active substances having been not extractable through conventional extraction techniques with organic solvents, etc., by immersing plant seeds in water. CONSTITUTION:Plant seeds are immersed in water at 15-30 (pref. 20-25) deg.C for 1-2 days or so, and the resultant solution is conventionally concentrated and, as necessary, put to gel filtration chromatography, high-performance liquid chromatography or the like, or a combination thereof, thus isolating and purifying desired physiologically active substance(s) in the plant. The substance(s), according to its(their) characteristics, is hopeful of agricultural applications such as crop growth regulation. The plant seeds are, e.g. those of the plant selected from the following plants: sunflower, spinach, corn, okra, carrot, avena, parsley, livid amaranth, Guinea pepper, buckwheet, tomato, cabbage, lettuce, cockscomb, burdock, honewort, pease, Japanese radish, and Byzantine-speedwell.</p> |
