The front, intermediate and rear axles (1, 2, 3) are driven by the engine (7) through differentials (4, 5, 6). The intermediate and rear axles are mounted on pairs of leaf springs, with the front ends of one pair of springs mounted to the chassis between the rear ends of the other pair. A shaft connects the steering of the rear pair of wheels to the steering of the front wheels. The power from the engine is taken to a transfer gearbox (18) through the main gearbox (21) and the shaft (20). The transfer box has three output shafts (13, 14, 15) driving one axle each; the drive (15, 16) to the rear axle is divided, with the centre bearing assembly (16) mounted on the casing of the intermediate axle (2). Drive from the transfer box to the axles may be connected selectively. ADVANTAGE - The arrangement of the rear springs allows positioning of the intermediate and rear axles close to one another, the selective drive to axles allows for operation in the case of failure of an axle, and the rear axle steering gives a smaller turning circle and reduced scrubbing of the rear tyres.
