The sensor (8) has at least one barber pole sensor block (10) of given length and width, with a number of magnetoresistive strips (2), magnetised parallel to the longitudinal direction of the latter. The strips lie adjacent one another parallel to the longitudinal direction of the sensor block and are connected in series, so that their currents flow in the same direction. Two barber pole sensor blocks with the same number of magnetoresistive strips may be connected in series, arranged in series in the width direction, respectively exhibiting a positive and negative resistance variation. USE - For use in air-gap of sun current transducer annular magnetic core, for detecting fault or difference currents.
