The crank drive for operating the binding needle is coupled with a switching shaft (8) and is connected with a co-rotating cam (20). On this cam an entrainment member (21), rotating constantly with the gear shaft (12), acts as soon as the crank pin (6') of the crank drive jars during rotation of the switching shaft (8) near its upper dead centre. The cam can be connected directly or indirectly rigid with the switching shaft. The entrainment member is fixedly connected to the output shaft (12) and has a roller (22) at its other end .
