The container, consisting of a base (2), a body (3) and a lid (4), has the upper edge (5) of the body made with a series of springy tongues (6) which are folded inwards, while the lide has an outer rim (7) with a recess (8) which is wide enough to receive the tongues and retain the lid in a locked position. The container can be opened by a perforated lines (10) down the side of the body or a perforated section (11A) in the lid, raised by a tab (17). The container can be cylindrical or in another shape, e.g. polygonal or rectangular, with the body made from sealed cardboard or a synthetic material, the base of cardboard, and the lid entirely of a synthetic material. The synthetic material used in the manufacture of the container can be PET, PVC, PP or OPS.
