An electrophysiological tissue stimulation apparatus comprises signal generating means in the form of function generators (3), noise generators (5), sensitive detectors (38) via wave shapers (9) which can be inhibited by switches (10) at the inputs (2) of a mixer used to shape a composite signal having an electrophysiological characteristic (12) and amplified by the broadband amplifier (14) to give it an adequate power level for tissue stimulation applications. Said tissue stimulation is effected by electrodes supplied from the single distribution outlet (22) when the inverter switches (21) are down or from the bipolar distribution outlets (25, 26) through bipolar bilateral analog dimultiplexers (23, 24) when they are up.
