The cable assembly device for line sections (LA) has a housing module (G,M) allowing plug fittings with different housings (GH) to be fitted in a housing workpiece carrier (WG). The housing module has a number of feed channels grouped in dependence on the number of housings required for each operating cycle, with a position handling system (PH) for all feed channel groups and portal loading devices (PHI,,,,PHN) corresponding in number to the number of groups. Each portal loading device is matched to the contour of the housings and has handling grips with three degrees of movement transferring the housings to the housing workpiece carrier for fitting to the line section ends.
