A ratchet lever mechanism of the type used with some form of winch has a lever (2) that can be moved in a cranking action. The end of the lever has a locating hole (5) for a ratchet head (4) that has a square ended drive stage (9) that connects with the winch. The top of the ratchet has formed radial square section grooves (32) that are engaged by cylinder pin (40) located in a transverse hole (15) and is retained by a setting pin (14). The end of the pin (40) is angled and can be turned through 180 degrees such that motion can be transmitted by the ratchet lever is either the clockwise or anticlockwise direction. Alternatively a mid position can be selected for locking the ratchet to the lever. USE/ADVANTAGE - Simplified centre position locking.
